Hey, it looks like Senator Ted Cruz was right! Even the venerable Chicago Tribune is calling for outright repeal of Obamacare. It’s what happens when one party rams objectives down the throat of constituents.
Democrats own this. In the next election cycle if you want real reform in healthcare vote Republican.
Over the lifetime of this blog, I have written about Obamacare in various ways. My first post, talked about how my family has arranged its life around insurance. That was in March of 2010, and it pretty much rings true today. Even the nose on Pinocchio Obama’s face is true.
Obama knowingly lied to the American public. He is not any different than Richard Nixon.
The Obamacare exchanges were never going to work. They were never going to drive down the cost of insurance. They weren’t designed as a transparent, competitive price discovery mechanism.
The goals of healthcare reform were never centered on the customers. The objective was to increase the size of government, and increase the amount of leverage the government has over the nation’s healthcare system.
Cutting costs, making things efficient, and insuring more people was a fake goal in order to get people to buy in.
If they really wanted to redesign the healthcare system and make it economically efficient, they would have decentralized it, opened up competition and transparency. Then put the power of the pocketbook in the hands of the end user, the consumer of health care.
Time and time again the world has seen how the power of markets drive efficiencies. The free market forces participants to declare and be transparent. At the end of the day, the lowest price is reached with the greatest part of the market getting supplied.
There were early signs that the Democrats were not serious about reforming healthcare. For example, not allowing insurance companies to compete across state borders was one sign. Auto insurance is much cheaper because of nationwide competition. It changes in price from city to city reflecting the individual peccadillo’s of the city. It changes with the driver’s age.
Democrats tried to normalize costs. They used normative economics to drive decision making.
Democratic logic ignores real world economics. There is a reason females pay more than males from the ages of 14-40. There is a risk they can become pregnant. There is a reason men pay more later in life. They die sooner and are generally less healthy than women. There is a reason younger people only need catastrophic insurance. There is a reason old people ought to pay more. Costs can never be the same across the spectrum. What the Democrats did was force socialized medicine down American throats.
This is an unmitigated disaster that will never work and cannot possibly be “fixed”. It’s a total fail, and deserves to go out of business.
